The Bible says, A merry heart doeth good like a medicine (Proverbs 17:22, KJV). That means laughter is not just emotional relief; it can be a God-given tool that refreshes the spirit and strengthens the inner man. When joy rises, despair loses its grip. There is a sacred kind of laughter that says, I may have been wounded, but I am not defeated. It is the laughter of faith, the laughter of hope, and the laughter of a believer who knows that sorrow will not have the final word. A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones. (Proverbs 17:22, KJV) This is not poetry, it is prescription. God Himself designed laughter as therapeutic intervention for the weary soul. Consider the promise in Ecclesiastes 3:4: There is a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance. Notice the divine sequencing - weeping is acknowledged, but laughter is appointed. Your tears are seen by the Father (Psalm 56:8), but He is calling you into the appointed time of release.
Laugh, child of God, laugh!
Laugh until sorrow loosens its hold.
Laugh until fear loses its voice.
Laugh until your heart remembers what your mouth has forgotten: the Lord is near, and His joy is your strength.
Let laughter become your holy protest against depression. Let it be your faith-filled declaration that the darkness will not define your destiny. A believer who laughs in hope is declaring, “God is still on the throne, and my healing is still possible.”
